Pentafox Enhances Passenger Communication by Integrating Booking Contact Data with DCS Through the Guest Bridge Platform

Background & Story

Departure Control Systems (DCS) play a critical role in managing flight operations and passenger movement. However, the core DCS does not store or expose passenger contact details, such as mobile numbers, directly from booking data. This limitation created communication gaps and operational challenges, especially when teams needed to contact passengers close to departure time. The Guest Bridge Application was introduced as a supporting layer alongside the existing DCS. It retrieves passenger contact and booking information from booking systems using PNR data and makes it available within operational workflows—without modifying core DCS functionality or increasing manual effort.

Mission

  • Ensure passenger contact details are available accurately and on time
  • Enable this access without impacting core DCS functionality or workflows

Goals

  • Fetch passenger mobile numbers and booking details using PNR information
  • Support operational and communication needs by enabling passenger contact
  • Eliminate manual lookups across booking systems
  • Maintain a single, reliable, and consistent source of passenger information

Challenges

  • Core DCS does not store passenger contact information
  • A single PNR may include multiple passengers
  • Passenger details are required close to departure time
  • Repeated booking system queries could impact system performance

Solution & Strategy

The Guest Bridge layer was designed as a lightweight and efficient middleware solution

  • Integration layer operating alongside the existing DCS
  • Automated data retrieval through scheduled background jobs
  • Filtering and de-duplication logic to minimize unnecessary booking system calls
  • Controlled and secure APIs to expose passenger contact details to authorized workflows
  • Seamless integration without changes to core DCS logic

Collaboration

The application was developed in close collaboration with operations teams and system owners to ensure seamless integration with existing DCS workflows. Data flow, synchronization timing, and usage patterns were carefully aligned with real operational processes, while a strong focus on reliability ensured minimal impact on overall system performance.

Impact & Results

  • Passenger mobile numbers available when required for operations
  • Reduced manual effort and communication delays
  • Avoided duplicate and unnecessary booking system calls
  • Enabled smooth and timely passenger communication workflows
  • Improved data accuracy and consistency within DCS operations

Conclusion

The DCS Guest Bridge Application successfully addressed a critical data gap without disrupting existing systems. By introducing a dedicated middleware layer, the solution enabled timely access to passenger contact information, improved operational communication, and ensured data consistency—demonstrating a scalable and non-intrusive approach to system integration in airline operations.
